What is Pay in Mars?
Mars, Incorporated aims to be the employer of choice for those dedicated individuals with drive, talent, healthy dissatisfaction and a strong desire to win, who really make a difference. ¡°We want the best; will pay for the best and expect the best from our Associates¡±. Pay should not be the reason someone wants to work at Mars. We want people to come to Mars because we run lean, we can spend more per associate, and therefore give more responsibility (¡°big jobs early¡±). We want people to work for Mars because of what we can offer in terms of a career and environment. Pay should enable a co-operative working environment, sharing of experiences and best practices. It should not set units in competition against each other.
As a private, family owned business we need to focus on our strengths; what makes us different. With that in mind, at Mars, Incorporated pay may include the following components;

  • Base pay
    Remain competitive in the market the business competes;
    Focus on delivering long-term goals, avoiding the short term volatility public companies suffer;
    Be able to attract and retain associates through even the bad times.
  • Base pay incentives
    Base pay incentives include Good Time Keeping bonus (GTB) and ROTA pay, which are very unique to Mars.
  • Short term incentives
    Short term incentives include annual bonuses both individual and company which will be focussed on driving profitable growth.
  • Medium term incentives
    Medium term incentives will be delivered for local business performance and growth in value for the corporation as a whole.
  • Long term incentives
  • Long term incentives will be delivered for total corporate performance, and is entitled to a selected group of key associates.

Total Pay
The sum of all of the above is referred to as Total Pay.
 We will pay for the best. We foster the thinking that ¡°if my business does well, I will do well¡± and therefore we will pay premium pay for premium performance, ensuring affordability with high productivity.
In general, total pay (base plus variable) opportunity will be positioned well above market median for premium performance. The minimum competitive level will be set in order to maintain competitiveness in the market. The business competes for both talent and products.
We relate the total pay opportunity of individuals to

  • The size & location of business in which they are based.
  • Reflect individual accountability, span of control and scope of responsibility
